This week Amazon released another gadget into the Echo family. Echo Look is Alexa with eyes and ears. It’s a device that features LED lighting and a depth-sensing camera. Using computer vision, Echo Look’s camera can automatically blur the background of your photo so you (and your outfit) are the only thing in focus.
“Alexa, take a picture”
Just say “Alexa, take a picture” or “Alexa, take a video.” And Echo Look has your fashion needs covered. It also features a service called Style Check that uses machine learning and human fashion specialists to provide real-time feedback, recommendations, and second opinions. “Over time, these decisions get smarter through your feedback and input form our team of experienced fashion specialists,” Amazon says.
There’s an obvious opportunity for Amazon to get you shopping for more clothes on Amazon.
And yes, the Echo Look still behaves like Amazon’s other smart speakers when you’re not using it, complete with smart home control. The Echo Look is priced at $200 USD by invitation only in the US. It’s still unclear when Echo Look, or even the original Amazon Echo, will arrive in Canada.
